What we do

We protect land, restore ecosystems, and care for them for generations

Our mandate

1

Protecting land

We acquire parcels high in biodiversity that are at risk of being lost.

2

Stewarding land

We maintain critical habitats for vulnerable species. Our regional land managers look after the needs of our conservation areas, both day-to-day and for the long term.

3

Restoring land

We restore habitats for native flora and fauna. This includes removing invasive species, collecting and planting native seeds, and monitoring native species to help them recover and thrive.

How we decide

Before we acquire a new parcel of land, we assess it for ecological value. We look at:

  • Diversity and uniqueness of plants, animals and fungi
  • Presence of endangered or vulnerable flora, fauna, or communities, and how well-protected they are elsewhere
  • How close it is to other conservation lands
