Indigenous Engagement
and Respect

The Nature Trust of British Columbia acknowledges that our conservation work takes place across the traditional territories of many First Nations throughout what is now known as British Columbia.

We recognize and respect the enduring relationships Indigenous Peoples have with these lands, waters, and ecosystems. Since time immemorial, Indigenous communities have cared for and stewarded these places through knowledge, responsibility, and connection that continue today.

We honour the histories, cultures, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples and recognize their ongoing role as stewards of the land.

As an organization dedicated to conservation, we acknowledge that caring for nature is strengthened by learning from and working alongside Indigenous communities. We are committed to fostering respectful relationships and supporting a future where both nature and communities can thrive together.

Our Commitment

NTBC is committed to continuing its journey of learning, relationship-building, and collaboration with Indigenous Peoples throughout the province. Through respectful engagement, shared stewardship, and ongoing dialogue, we seek to support conservation efforts that recognize Indigenous rights, perspectives, and leadership.
